Pay Range

$113,730.00  - $146,076.00  Annually for the TSS.2 level

$136,500.00  - $175,272.00  Annually for the TSS.3 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for Nuclear Materials Risk Manager. You will support new and on-going activities for Nuclear Materials Program activities in support of programmatic execution of the Plutonium Modernization Program. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), in support of the Nuclear Materials (NM) element of the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program, within the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

  • Interface with risk owners to develop programmatic risk data for the LLNL Plutonium Modernization Program Risk Register: including dates, cost impacts, schedule impacts, handling strategies, and steps to execute mitigation plans to reduce risk.
  • Assist risk owners in achieving NA-191 Risk and Opportunity Management Plan (ROMP) compliance.
  • Perform staff education and training in the application of ROMP requirements.
  • Administer Management and Operating (M&O) risk repositories and management software and applications, specifically Riskonnect Active Risk Manager (ARM).
  • Provide the required Monthly Site R&O Report and data input to Program Risk Repository (PRR), in accordance with ROMP format.
  • Participate in periodic meetings or teleconferences organized and facilitated by the Integrated Risk Management Team (IRMT) or Federal Program Office (FPO), including active participation in a monthly RC meeting and facilitating a presentation at the Quarterly Risk Review (QRR).
  • Convert concerns to R&Os as appropriate; and convert realized risks to issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.3 level

  • Perform independent risk assessments, evaluate adherence to ROMP per activity in program portfolio.
  • Communicate issues, trends, and results of analysis to develop mitigation strategies for a variety of activities.
  • Provide solutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex issues/problems that require in depth analysis and creative use of established techniques and methods.
  • Provide detailed mentoring to less-experienced engineering, scientific, and technical staff on risk management approaches, including developing training material on risk assessment, mitigation implementation and tracking techniques, risk management efficacy.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials or electrical engineering or related field; Associate degree in engineering technology with related experience; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with risk management, using risk analysis tools and implementing risk management frameworks.
  • Ability to provide creative risk mitigation solutions to an assortment of issues/problems of moderate complexity.
  • Ability to generate risk analysis reports, including review of documentation and  analysis of processes.
  • Ability to travel to meet programmatic milestones.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.3 level

  • Significant experience with risk analysis reports, including review of documentation, analysis of processes, including risk mitigation development and improvement strategies across multiple variety of projects and multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide solutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex issues/problems that require analysis and creative use of established techniques and methods while exercising a high degree of independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or informal mentoring to less experienced personnel, leading, directing, and guiding staff to fulfill programmatic deliverables.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master’s degree in engineering, or field related to Risk Management.
  • Experience with Riskonnect, Enterprise Risk Management or other platforms.
  • Experience interfacing with oversight organizations.
