Pay Range
$123,960 - $166,992 Annually for the SES.2 level
$148,650 - $200,328 Annually for the SES.3 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We're looking for an Assistant Deputy IT Manager to provide advanced technical and analytical support for multiple unclassified and classified networks, standalone systems, data centers, ServiceNow queues, continuity of operations/business impact, automation, and development related to process improvement. You will work closely with the Deputy IT Manager to assist in the operations and management of Weapons and Complex Integration Information Technology (WCI IT), defining metrics and monitoring, areas of improvement, disaster recovery planning, and establishing service level agreements. You will interact regularly with team leads and team members, customers, and management to improve operations of an IT organization ensuring timely completion of work, backup and recovery targets are met, optimal monitoring and reporting, and improving customer service. This position is in the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division supporting Weapons and Complex Integration Information Technology Program within the Computing Directorate.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
- You will serve in the Assistant Deputy IT Manager role focusing on operational success.
- Assess and monitor system backup and recovery posture, including continuity of operations and business impact analysis.
- Monitor ServiceNow queues, working with team to reduce backlog of work and define and meet service level agreements.
- Collaborate in the design and architecting of systems working closely with the project management team and infrastructure team.
- Work closely with the OISSO to assess and quantify cyber security risks and take appropriate actions, including analyzing, interpreting, and applying cyber security processes, procedures, and policies for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with Federal requirements and how that affects daily operations.
- Develop and manage monitoring projects and tasks. Collaborate with other WCI IT teams and WCI Applications to ensure consistency between monitoring tools and projects.
- Design and execute project plans, meetings, metric gathering, and analyze data, to report results, which includes researching, analyzing, and recommending operational improvements.
- Provide guidance to customers on policies, requirements, information resources, and development of a common solution. Coordinate and lead working groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 level
- Provide advanced technical assistance, training, and/or mentoring to others in area of cyber security.
- Define and develop automation, dashboards, and reports to enhance business operations and process improvements.
- Collaborate in the development of new processes and serve as a primary technical point of contact with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, Information Assurance or in a related field or equivalent combination of education and technical training in an IT discipline(s) and related experience.
- Broad technical knowledge in one or more areas (system administration, network administration, desktop support), utilizing analytical and research skills effectively to develop solutions.
- Comprehensive analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Effective interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate, negotiate and influence all levels of personnel.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate in a team environment and document, present and explain technical information.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with conflicting priorities, to approach difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity and to change focus, when necessary, with experience working independently.
Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level
- Advanced knowledge of and technical expertise with automation, scripting, or monitoring tools such as PowerShell, Python, Nagios, PowerBI, Tableau, and Splunk.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Significant experience in computer and network technologies and knowledge of IT Management processes.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience leading and conducting internal IT process improvements, investigating and developing new processes, automations, and driving efficiency in an IT organization.
- Expert knowledge of multiple IT focus areas including network, servers, virtual infrastructure, cyber security, disaster recovery, datacenters, etc.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
