Pay Range

$148,650 - $200,328 Annually for the SES.3 level
$178,410 - $240,384 Annually for the SES.4 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for an Enterprise Architect to support multiple initiatives in the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Applications organization. Working with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, you will provide thought leadership, technical guidance, and architectural oversight for strategic initiatives and related projects across Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) level programs and portfolios. This position is in the Applications, Simulations, and Quality (ASQ) Division within the Computing Directorate. 

This position will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

  • Contribute to the development of business strategy, information, application, technical, and security architectures and standards, and the development and execution of portfolio prioritization processes. 
  • Consult with mission stakeholders, end users, and program management personnel in the development of roadmaps to advance digital engineering including the establishment of a digital thread, enterprise cloud adoption, and related initiatives within the NSE. 
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge and expertise to facilitate the research, evaluation, and selection of software technologies and standards across multiple, interrelated development efforts within an NSE-wide software application portfolio. 
  • Track technology lifecycles and develop and maintain plans to account for technology obsolescence and risk.  
  • Collaborate with development teams and other IT staff to define and implement enabling components of an architectural runway and provide feedback on adoption and performance to inform sustainment activities.  
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary, interagency team to improve information technology delivery and operational efficiency. 
  • Participate in annual and long-range planning and budgeting processes, preparing, and presenting architecture solutions and strategic proposals, and providing actionable recommendations to drive targeted mission outcomes. 
  • Function as a standing member of architecture review boards, ensure alignment to established architectural, program, and portfolio management standards and principles, and contribute to the ongoing refinement and development of new standards to support emergent needs. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Additional job responsibilities at the SES.4 Level (Only 3 bullets)

  • May lead one or more architecture segments aligned to mission-outcome focused value streams and/or cross-cutting technical and governance functions of an NSE-wide portfolio, providing guidance and oversight to system architects for applications and services within the segment(s). 
  • Organize, convene, and lead external interdisciplinary committees, coordinating collaborations between all levels of interagency personnel.  
  • Represent the Chief Architect in all capacities, including leading multi-site teams of architects and technical personnel as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Master’s degree in Enterprise Architecture, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant previous experience. 
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise application software selection, implementation, and integration principles across a broad range of supported business functions. 
  • Advanced knowledge and experience across a broad range of software development approaches, including appropriate applications of no-code, low-code, and high-code/full stack development tools and techniques.  
  • Significant experience developing and/or reviewing technical documentation, including software specifications, data and process flow diagrams, and architecture models. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading software product development efforts using waterfall and agile product development approaches and familiarity with data management tools and technologies such as relational databases, NoSQL databases, and ontology management software. 
  • Demonstrated servant leadership experience as a member of a multidisciplinary and/or cross-organizational team supporting technical transformation initiatives. 
  • Advanced level experience with DevSecOps practices and tools. 
  • Advanced communication, facilitation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel in a multi-disciplinary environment. 

Additional Qualifications at the SES.4 Level

  • Highly advanced experience leading software product development efforts supporting the design and/or manufacture of complex physical systems. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster relationships across disciplines and organizations, and political acumen to lead and influence enterprise-wide initiatives. 
  • Significant, in-depth experience in one or more enterprise architecture domains, including business, data, applications, and/or technology.

  • Experience using and/or implementing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) or other lean/agile approaches. 
  • Experience with one or more formal architecture frameworks and related modeling languages and notations, such as TOGAF, DoDAF, Zachmann, UML, and ArchiMate.
