Pay Range

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate viral evolution and pathogenesis using in vitro and in vivo assays, deep sequence analysis, and reverse genetics.  You will join an interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of virology, immunology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.  This position is in Microbiology and Immunology Group of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

In this role you will

  • Design and conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments in virology, molecular biology, and immunology in support of studies aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of viral variant emergence and genotype to phenotype predictions.
  • Perform innovative research in the area of virus evolution, sequence analysis, and genomic/proteomic data mining.
  • Employ cellular and molecular characterization on tissue such as histology, flow cytometry, qPCR, etc.
  • Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory
  • Present formal and informal overviews of experimental progress at regular meetings.
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
  • Maintain and establish laboratory protocols, an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook including complete records of experiments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Virology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Expertise in working with in vivo models of infectious disease and/or characterizing in vivo immune responses.
  • Proficiency isolating and processing tissues for cellular and molecular analyses
  • Proficiency working with mammalian cell culture and propagation of viruses
  • Proficiency with one or more cellular/molecular characterization techniques, such as flow cytometry, histology, RT-PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, sequencing, etc.
  • Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with NGS analysis and bioinformatics
  • Experience with reverse genetic methods for manipulation of RNA virus genomes

Position Information

This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
