Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in the field of enzyme engineering for bio-inspired restoration of aged concrete. You will actively participate in research to redesign and produce enzymes to achieve desired functionality under altered environmental conditions. This position is in the Systems and Synthetic biology group in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.
In this role you will
- Perform research in enzyme engineering using a directed evolution approach.
- Develop high-throughput screening methods to identify proteins and enzymes with desired properties.
- Develop and execute assays to characterize engineered enzyme performance.
- Develop research plans and generate/interpret results.
- Communicate with a broad spectrum of internal and external scientists to solve scientific challenges.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Maintain and establish laboratory protocols, an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook including complete records of experiments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- PhD in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, or a relevant field with a strong emphasis in protein engineering.
- Expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology.
- Experience and knowledge in directed evolution (mutagenesis, screening, gene amplification) and enzyme assays.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with gene library construction in bacteria
- Experience in high-throughput screening of protein expression and function.
- Experience with protein purification and characterization

Position Information
This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
