Pay Range
$192,660 - $259,584 Annually for the SEL.4 level
$231,150 - $311,472 Annually for the SEL.5 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Group Leader to support Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) and the W87-1 Modification Program. You will provide programmatic and line management l leadership for a set of high-level technical Systems Engineering activities, leading a group of systems engineers, to provide project integration and management of requirements, and mapping of designs, functions, failure mechanisms, risks, assessments, and verifications to requirements. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), supporting the WTE and Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Program initiatives.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role you will
- Provide supervision, guidance and training to group members, foster staff development, promote systems engineering improvements, participate in hiring activities and balancing of group skill sets to support WTE and WCI programs.
- Direct and assign work to group members and remain cognizant of the technical goals, workload balances, and progress of group projects.
- Define, track, and complete work objectives on time and within budget in collaboration with group and LEP/MOD personnel. Monitor performance required to meet programmatic milestones and deliverables and lead corrective actions where necessary. Ensure that program risks and requirements are communicated in an effective and timely manner to senior leadership.
- Provide SE&I group with leadership in project systems engineering, development, execution, expertise, and systems analytic methods that support product qualification and system certification.
- Perform WTE and WCI special assignments and represent the Programs and DTED at meetings, briefings, and committee activities both internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Prepare and conduct performance management activities for SE&I group personnel and contribute to the DTED ranking and salary management processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the SEL.5 level
- Influence strategic technical decisions made by senior management and external customers, based on SE&I activities.
- Mentor staff across the organization, including other mentors. Encourage authorship of SE&I activities, and innovations as an expert in the application of SE&I within the nuclear security enterprise.
- Serve as organization spokesperson by Laboratory management and/or external advisor by sponsors and/or professional societies representing the Laboratory in Systems Engineering matters.
Qualifications
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience with systems engineering practices for requirements, designs, functions, failure mechanisms, risks, assessments, and verifications. Subject matter knowledge of nuclear warhead engineering, assessments and design.
- Expertise with systems engineering tools and techniques and proficient with product realization processes, project work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, analyzing and managing budgets, and project controls reporting.
- Ability to promote and maintain productive relationships across directorates, with other laboratories, and with personnel from external entities.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills, necessary to present, explain, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors.
- Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, organizational, and supervisory skills to lead personnel, write performance appraisals, and actively participate in ranking and hiring activities.
- Experience working independently and responsively to changing priorities and ability to meet deadlines.
Additional qualifications at the SEL.5 level
- Nationally recognized expert utilizing SE&I for large programs; defining, developing, and executing SE&I processes.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, influence, and advise senior management and external sponsors.
- Extensive experience and expert SE&I knowledge to address advancements that may have impact beyond the Laboratory.
Qualifications We Desire
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering or related field.
- Broad knowledge of Laboratory policies and practices and applicable NNSA orders.
