We have multiple openings for Fire and Alarm Life Safety Systems Electricians. You will perform journey level electrical work on a variety of specialized fire and alarm monitoring systems, including maintenance, construction, installation, inspection, test, and repair on electrical circuits in support of fire alarm and emergency voice alarm systems, and indoor and outdoor emergency lighting. This position is in the Alarms Division within the Emergency Management Department and may require working at Site 300 in Tracy, California.
In this role you will
- Perform journey level electrical hot work and electronics on a variety of specialized fire and alarm life safety systems, including lockout/tagout to isolate components and de-energize equipment, installation, construction, demo, maintenance, inspections, test and repair of fire alarm and emergency voice alarm systems, and emergency lighting.
- Plan, layout, fabricate, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, test and repair of complex electrical circuits and system controls to commission and restore life safety systems and components to operational condition, including specialized detection systems, fire alarm and fan control panels, fire suppression systems, emergency and general use voice systems, criticality alarms, refrigerant, oxygen, and tritium sensors.
- Interpret written reports, blueprints, schematics, drawings, electrical diagrams, as-built, specifications, software and system programs, operation and product manuals.
- Provide technical guidance and train other crafts personnel, including assuming small crew task leadership on safety and work projects in support of program scope and function.
- Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members, interact with program facility contacts, customers, clients, other crafts and administrative personnel.
- Analyze data, system performance and work requests, maintain systems and recommend improvements using established maintenance procedures, and ensure continued system operation and compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements.
- Prepare standard reports, equipment inventory, work orders, vehicle maintenance, mileage, inspection, and maintenance reports.
- Ensure all assignments are performed in accordance with ES&H, security, quality standards, Work Planning and Control, program requirements, and Laboratory policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of California State Certified apprenticeship program in the electrician trade or equivalent experience; with a valid State of California General Electrician License and a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
- Knowledge and ability to modify, construct, install, maintain, troubleshoot, inspect, test, and repair complex specialized fire alarm life safety systems, electronic circuits, emergency voice alarm systems, and emergency lighting.
- Journey level skills and knowledge in the electrical trade, including knowledge of National Electrical Codes (NEC) NFPA 70, 70E, 72, and 101 Life Safety Code, high voltage, and ES&H laws and regulations.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and work from complex blueprints, drawings, electrical diagrams, specifications, software and systems programs, schematics, operation and product manuals.
- Proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade, multi-meters and other specialized electronic test equipment associated with testing and troubleshooting life safety systems, electronic circuits, emergency voice alarm systems, and emergency lighting.
- Proven customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of management, team members, ES&H, technicians, other crafts and administrative personnel.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including knowledge of personal computers and associated software to prepare and complete forms, reports, and logs, send and receive e-mails, perform computer-based training, and timekeeping entry.
- Ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime and on-call, lift up to 50 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner, and work in confined spaces
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience working as a journey level electrician in the field of fire and alarm safety systems installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working with and knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems MXL, XLS, Desigo, System 3, and Emergency Voice Paging Alarm Systems MXLV, EVA, VoiceCom, and Wheelock.

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
