Job Description

We have a full-time opening for a Psychologist to provide a broad range of counseling services for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) 8,000 employees and their family members. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work within Laboratory policies and DOE requirements, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.  This position includes providing consultation to management, supervisors and occupational health staff on behavioral health, human reliability and work related psychological issues; perform behavioral health counseling, assessments, and referrals for employees, family members and groups for personal and work-related problems; integrate needs of the employee, organization, and work unit to minimize work-site impact while maintaining continuity and quality of care for the clients; and provide crisis intervention, case management and critical incident stress debriefings for both management and general staff.  Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting psychological evaluations and assessment for employees that are in safety and security sensitive positions.

This position is in the Health Services Department’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), within the ES&H Directorate. You will be working within a hybrid of telehealth and on-site services weekly.  A 9-80 flexible schedule may be available.  LLNL’s Health Services Department’s structure is a multidisciplinary private clinical practice with XX number of employees that consist of: Occupational Health Physicians, Occupational Nurses, Health and Wellness Coordinators and Psychologists.

This position is well suited for a Psychologist who would like to expand their skills in return to work program, fitness for duty evaluations, disability management, crisis response, as well as drug free workforce assessment/case management.  Additionally, this role will provide outreach, presentations, and an opportunity for specialized workplace groups (e.g., beryllium support, valley fever).

In this role you will 

  • Perform individual, marital and family counseling on issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, family problems and work-related concerns.
  • Provide employee assistance services to Laboratory employees and management and facilitate appropriate interventions and determine appropriate mental health treatments.
  • Perform mental health assessments and structured interviews
  • Administer and interpret Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 3 (MMPI3) and Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) psychological tests
  • Consult with other occupational health professionals on behavioral health aspects of occupational and non-occupational injury cases.
  • Provide crisis intervention/critical incident stress management consultation to groups.
  • Provide services remotely via telehealth protocols.
  • Perform duties consistent with the American Psychological Association (APA) Ethical Guidelines, or other professional guidelines and Employee Assistance Professional Association (EAPA) standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 343.2 level

  • Develop and give presentation to supervisors.
  • Consult with LLNL management / supervisor the most difficult/sensitive personnel and organizational issues, including referrals from Staff Relations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE L-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
  • Doctorate in psychology and experience working as a counselor.
  • Current California license as a Psychologist (e.g., PsyD, PhD).
  • Experience with MMPI interpretation and psychological assessment.
  • Extensive experience assessing and addressing personal and work-related challenges, substance misuse and abuse issues, career and life transitions, marital, family and personal stress and the emotional impact of illness focusing on health and productivity management.
  • Extensive training and experience in mental health, substance abuse/chemical dependency counseling, clinical assessment, and organizational issues.
  • Experience assessing workplace threats and providing critical incident stress debriefings.

Additional qualifications at the 343.2 level (only add if dual role)

  • Experience performing complex and comprehensive psychological assessment and evaluation, including fitness for duty and return to work assessments.

Security Clearance
