Job Description

We have multiple openings for undergraduates to engage in practical research to further their educational goals. Opportunities include both computational and experimental research on problems associated with bioenergy, microbial communities, biodefense, and innate immunity.  These positions are within the Biosciences & Biotechnology Division.

In this role you will 

  • Students will work with biologists, biochemists and computational scientists engaged in research on specific projects.
  • Under close supervision, will participate in research in assigned area.

  • Gather and analyze data and perform literature searches in support of scientific research.
  • Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Ability to apply basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.

  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.

  • Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Security Clearance

LLNL is a Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Laboratory.  Most positions will require a DOE L or Q clearance (please reference Security Clearance requirement).  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  An L or Q clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.  For additional information please see DOE Order 472.2.
