Job Description
We have multiple openings for graduate students and for students who received a bachelor’s or master’s degree to support/engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. Opportunities include completing research and working on various projects within atmospheric science, climate and carbon cycle research, seismology, hydrology, geoscience, environmental science, accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), and nuclear energy research.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team.
In this role you will
- Under limited direction and supervision, conduct research in assigned area.
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to scientist in scientific research and development projects.
- Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an graduate degree or has completed their bachelor’s or master’s degree in geophysics, engineering or related field.
- Ability to apply basic engineering principles to solve technical problems.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Qualifications We Desire
- GPA of 3.0 or higher

Security Clearance
LLNL is a Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Laboratory. Most positions will require a DOE L or Q clearance (please reference Security Clearance requirement). If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. An L or Q clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
