Major Disaster Leave

New vacation leave donation program available for COVID-19

A new leave donation program, Major Disaster Leave (MDL), is now available for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This leave donation program allows eligible employees to request vacation donations or donate unused vacation time. This plan is strictly voluntary and is effective May 16, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2022, or earlier if the disaster is declared over before then.

If the pandemic causes a severe hardship to you or to your family members that requires you to be absent from work, and you do not have the ability to telecommute, adjust your schedule, or work your full schedule, you could be eligible for this program.

Severe hardship includes:

• School or daycare closure

• Child(ren) not allowed to attend school or daycare due to exposure and required to quarantine

• Family member required to quarantine due to exposure and unable to be cared for by their regular caregiver

To apply for the program, use the Request to Receive Donated Leave in LAPIS. At the time you apply, you must have no more than 40 hours of accrued vacation leave. Your accrued vacation will be used prior to any donated leave. Employees who receive donated vacation leave may receive no more than 80 hours (2 weeks) within a rolling 12-month period. Names of those requesting donated leave are confidential and not shared with donors.

To donate vacation leave hours, use the Request to Donate Leave through self-service in LAPIS. Eligible employees will be allowed to donate accrued vacation leave hours from their unused balance to their coworkers in need of additional paid time off. Donated vacation leave will go into a leave bank for use by eligible recipients. When this program ends, unused donated hours will be proportionally returned to donors. Names of those donating leave are confidential and not shared with recipients.

If you do not have access to LAPIS, complete the form below to apply for MDL.
