Willie D. Thompson

Willie D. Thompson died Feb. 15. He was 72.

Thompson was born Nov. 15, 1945. He began his career as a health and safety technologist in the Hazards Control Department at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in March 1984. Several years later, he was promoted to technician supervisor. He provided ES&H support to nearly every area of the Laboratory over his 22-year career and made many friends. He ended his career working for the ES&H Training Division in 1986. Thompson worked on many projects while at the Laboratory, both overseas and locally. He responded to events in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, being deployed to New Orleans on Sept. 13, 2005.

Thompson was a hard working, dedicated Laboratory employee. One of the things that many people remember about him is his laughter, good sense of humor and his dedication to family and friends.

Thompson is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nelgene Thompson; four children; and three grandchildren.

Services were recently held at Shiloh Baptist Church in Sacramento.
