William H. (Bill) Burke

William H. (Bill) Burke of Visalia died Monday, Jan. 12.

Burke was a graduate of BYU, was active in the LDS church throughout his life and taught Sunday school for many years, both in Hawaii and California. Burke was a Vietnam veteran and served as the engineering officer on the USS Blue 744 during the Vietnam War.

Burke's professional career included several years of hotel management in Hawaii, followed by 20 or so years at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he worked for the Biomedical and Environmental Programs. While at LLNL, he was active in the radiation clean-up of the Eniwetok and Bikini Islands. Following his career at LLNL, he worked in the Silicon Valley for Ultratech Stepper.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and their labradoodle, Boucle. Burke's interests in life were varied and included sailing, fishing, hunting, horses and dogs.

Celebration of life services will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave in Visalia at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation on Bill's behalf. Tributes and condolences may be made on the Web.
