William Edward Maciel

William “Bill” Edward Maciel died Oct. 10 after a 16-month battle with brain cancer. He was 58.

He was born Feb. 8, 1960, to Edward and Martha “Ann” Maciel in Castro Valley, California. He grew up in Fremont and San Francisco and was a proud resident of Livermore for 35 years.

Maciel enjoyed the outdoors, the San Francisco Giants, traveling, skiing, winemaking and spending time with his family and friends. He was a proud employee of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 35 years. Those that knew him enjoyed his vast knowledge, sense of humor, intense work ethic, commitment to his family and friends, love for good food and good wine.

Maciel is survived by his wife, Lisa, son, David, daughter, Amy and siblings, Joan, Jim and Ron along with a large extended family and large group of friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at Callaghan Mortuary. The family invites you to celebrate his life immediately following at Robert Livermore Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maciel’s honor can be made to the Tri-Valley Conservancy.
