Shaun Kesterson

Shaun Kesterson died Feb. 10. He was 64.

Kesterson was born May 23, 1951, in Montana, but grew up in San Bernardino County in Southern California. He graduated from Fontana High School in 1969, and joined the Navy. He served on the USS Seawolf in the submarine service during the Cold War. Afterward, he was employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Kesterson went to UC Berkley and graduated with a degree in engineering. Upon the closure of Mare Island, he was hired by the Deptartment of Energy and advanced from a professional mechanical engineer to a staff civil engineer. He finished his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a systems engineer for the plutonium facilities. During his career, he developed many friends, both professionally and socially.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his three children, Kristopher, David and Shannon; his grandchildren, Haley, Coral, Brandon, Kayla, Shaun, Orion, Kristopher and Terran; as well as his siblings, Patty, Kevin, Lisa and Mona.

A funeral mass was recently held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cotati.
