Sarah Mary Tiedemann

Sarah Mary Tiedemann of Livermore died March 27. She was 95.

Tiedemann was born in Oakland, California on Nov. 12, 1919. She graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland in 1937 and attended Merritt Business School and Whittier School. She was in the Army from 1943 to 1945 in Texas. Other places of employment included Chinn-Beretta Optical in Oakland; Cresta Blanca Winery; VA Hospital; Coast Manufacturing & Supply Co.; Los Angeles Soap Company; the FBI in San Francisco; and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory starting in March 1953 (then known as UC Radiation Laboratory, Livermore). After leaving the Lab, she went to work for the UC Child, Health, and Development Studies.

Tiedemann was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Her hobbies included travel, especially to Europe, Norway and Africa; gardening; bridge; and attending plays.

She was predeceased by her mother Sarah M. Urton; father Henry John Tiedemann, and brother, Henry John Tiedemann, Jr., who was killed in WWII.

She will be missed by many friends, including her cousins Alan Firth in Millbrae and Rose Ray in Berkeley.

Services were recently held at St. Charles Catholic Church, Livermore. A mass at St. Charles Borromeo will be held later. She will also have a military funeral service held at St. Michael’s cemetery.
