Sandra Elizabeth Harvey

Sandra Elizabeth Harvey of Livermore died April 25. She was 68.

Harvey was born May 17, 1945 in Albany, Calif., to Thomas and Selma Lee. She received her bachelor's degree from Fresno State College, and after graduation in 1968, she moved to Livermore and began teaching in the Livermore School District. Harvey taught grades 2-5 at numerous schools in the district, with teaching pauses while living in the Washington, D.C. area and working in the Science Education Center at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Harvey retired from the School District in 2003 and became even busier. Her outgoing, cheerful, will-do nature led to participation in several local organizations/activities such as the Livermore-Amador Symphony Guild and its annual Pops Concert (chairperson the first several years); California Retired Teachers Association; Sunol Regional Wilderness Area docenting and Livermore Fitness Day. She was also a very active member of the Amador Valley Quilt Guild (current president) and several related groups.

Her main retirement passion has been quilting. With her daughter Holly's encouragement, she blended her artistic and creative talent and sewing abilities with modern, high-tech machines, equipment, techniques and materials. The result is a collection of beautiful quilts that will live on as her legacy for future family generations.

Harvey loved teaching, gardening, book club discussions, backpacking and fishing in the mountains, grand parenting and hosting annual "grandparent camps," traveling the world, and hiking locally three times a week with a talking-walking group.

Harvey is survived by her husband of 40 years, Doug Harvey; their two daughters, Holly (Bill) Casey of King City, Calif., and Heather (Jack) Lazzarini of Fresno Calif.; grandchildren, Jasper, Kelly, and Riley Casey and Olivia and Francesca Lazzarini; brother, Thomas Lee and niece, Michelle (Lee) Mutnick.
