Ruth Anderson

Ruth P. Anderson died Feb. 26. She was 86.

Anderson was born July 27, 1929. She worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 29 years as a nuclear chemist and gamma spectroscopist. She retired in 1991.

Anderson was a trailblazer in the running community. She started running in her mid-40s and raced until she was in her 70s, winning numerous age group awards. Anderson was very active in USA Track and Field (USATF) and was featured in Runner’s World Magazine in 1985 as an ultra-runner and pioneer of women’s running.

Anderson was living in a care facility in Ontario, Oregon. She was an inspiration to others and known as a kind and enthusiastic person. She is survived by a daughter in Ontario, Oregon.
