Robert P. Avila

Robert P. Avila, a longtime Tracy resident, died March 4. He was 91.

Avila was born in Anaheim and had lived in Tracy 41 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces military police during World War II, reaching the rank of corporal.

Avila worked six years as a welder for General Electric Co. and 20 years for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, retiring in 1993.

A parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, he was a member of the Tracy Latin Athletic Club and Tracy Elks Lodge BPOE No. 2031. He also acted as a translator for Los Médicos Voladores, a charity that sends doctors to Mexico, for many years.

Survivors include a son, George Avila, and his wife, Julie, of Livermore; a daughter, Nancy Avila of Stockton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 49 years, Carlotta H. Avila, who died in 1990; four children, Robert Avila, Anita Avila, David Avila and Daniel Avila; his parents, Encarnacion and Nicolasa Avila; two siblings, Manuel Avila and Rose Avila; and one grandson.

Services were recently held at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Burial with military honors followed in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road.
