Robert O. Duff Jr.

Robert Olin Duff Jr. died Dec. 6. He was 85.

Duff was born in Dallas, Texas, Dec. 23, 1929, to R. Olin and Mary (Hudson) Duff. He was educated at Dallas Public Schools, Texas Technical College (1951) and Harvard Business School (1956). Duff worked at Container Corp. of America, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California as mechanical engineer, Honeywell Corp in Newton, Cranbarry Company in Marblehead, Texas Instruments and Havard Community Health as a computer programmer.

He enjoyed sailing and racing International One Designs all over the world. He was famous for playing his bagpipes from the deck of the sailboat and later in life he was a long-term member of Eastern Yacht Club Race Committee in Marblehead where he was rarely, if ever, seen without his blue blazer (regardless of the temperature).

He is survived by his three children: Robert Duff of North Conway New Hampshire, Allison Duff and husband Alan Barth of Salem; and Stephen Duff and wife Michele of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his sisters, Mary Kinnan of Texas and Gwendolyn Bolin of Florid; four grandchildren, a niece and four nephews, and his former wife, Deborah Papps.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
