Raellen Dorough

Raellen “Rae” Dorough died unexpectedly Feb. 26 of post-operative complications. She was 74.

A native of California, she was born in Los Angeles, and was a longtime Livermore resident.

In the 1950s and '60s she worked for Kaiser Steel. Later, she worked as a secretary and administrative assistant in the LLNL Chemistry Department.

In the 1970s, she began a career in real estate, and was a successful realtor and broker for more than 30 years. During the last 15 years, she was co-owner of the locally owned firm, Valley Properties.

Over the years, she contributed to cultural and social enterprises and was a founding member of Del Valle Fine Arts. She and her husband, Gus Dorough, endowed a professor's chair in chemistry at UC Berkeley.

She is survived by her four children, Drake McCarthy of Oakland, Valerie Bays of Santa Clara, Maureen McCarthy of San Ramon, and Colleen Faith of Livermore; stepchildren Susan Fisher of Blythe, Lisa Giannini of Hickman, and Dan Dorough of Emeryville; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Dorough’s family invite friends to join them in a remembrance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, her birthday, at the Palm Event Center, 1184 Vineyard Ave., Pleasanton.
