Max Stanley Leap

Leap was born Nov. 27, 1927 in Ajo, Arizona, to Raymond and Lois Leap. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the army where he served two years. After his discharge he went to work at the copper mine in Ajo and married his sweetheart, Sammie. In 1959 he moved his young family to Livermore where he began work as a ceramics machinist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He enjoyed a 28 year career there until he retired in 1987. He and his wife moved to Dobbins in 1990 where they built their dream home in the foothills and enjoyed retirement.

Leap's one true passion was his family, which he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. In his early years, he enjoyed learning to fly a plane and rock hounding in the Arizona deserts. After settling in Livermore, he spent time with his family sailing, sports, playing the piano, wine, candle making, wood-working and vegetable gardening.

Leap is survived by Sammie, his loving wife of 63 years; daughters, Dianna (Rick) Schwieger of Tracy and Christy (Bill) Chivers of Oakley; grandchildren, Cody (Jissele) and Jennifer Chivers; great grandchildren Amelia and Aubrey Chivers. He also is survived by his brother, Lloyd Leap of Ajo, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at Callaghan’s Mortuary with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Livermore, California.
