Martyn G. Adamson

Martyn G. Adamson of Danville died Sept. 26. He was 76.

Adamson was born on Aug. 23, 1938 in Gateshead, (Newcastle) England where he was raised. He graduated from Leeds University Yorkshire, where he earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry. His work took him to South Australia for three years, back to England and then to Danville, California in 1970, where he found his permanent home.

Adamson was employed at General Electric (Pleasanton and Sunnyvale) and later at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he remained until he retired. He was recognized for his contributions through his work. He was honored to be a Fellow in the American Nuclear Society and ASM International.

Beginning at an early age, Adamson was an outstanding athlete. He enjoyed many sports including mountain climbing, skiing, scuba diving, cricket, soccer and rugby; but his favorite sport was always running track, especially sprints. He competed as an individual, on corporate teams, and represented the U.S. on the USA Masters team many times, both as an individual and on the team relay events. He was well decorated, earning many metals including gold.

Adamson is survived by his wife, Jan; their children and their spouses Michael and Janice, Nicole, Mitch and Natalie and Sherri; granddaughters Alix, Kaylee, Molli, Emily, Katie and Megan as well as his brother Neil and sister-in-law Di.
