Marian Barraza

Services have been held for Marian Barraza, who died on Nov. 9, 2018. She was 66.

Born in Oakland on Nov. 19, 1951, Barraza was raised in San Leandro and Livermore, where she graduated from Livermore High School. She came to the Lab at the age of 17 and worked as a procurement contract administrator for most of her 38-year career.

During that time she met Martin Benny Barraza, also a Lab employee, and the two were married. She was an active member of Amigos Unidos Hispanics in Partnership – a group that was co-founded by Martin Barraza. Marian cherished the many friendships she made at the Lab throughout her career, and continued to maintain those relationships after she was laid off during the workforce reduction of 2007.

Her children remember her as “an amazing mother and grandmother” as well as the “leader in the family,” bringing them together for various reunions, camping trips and other gatherings. She was a dedicated Manteca Cowboys football fan, and was proud to cheer on her grandchildren during various sporting events.

Barraza is preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who died in 1989, and her mother, Carmen Toledo. She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Barraza and Angelina Barraza; her grandchildren Jaymz, Jazlyn, Kayla, Marissa, Kayden and Alexandra; father Albert Toledo of Modesto; brother Ricardo (Felicia) Toledo of Manteca; sister Laura (Gustavo) Acevedo of Salida, and brother Daniel (Janine) Toledo of Salida; along with many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

A memorial service was held for her in Tracy on Nov. 19, the day she would have turned 67. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
