L. Lynn Cleland

L. Lynn Cleland died Dec. 24, 2020. He was 81.

Cleland received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1968. He was briefly an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering department at Purdue University before beginning a career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory that would span 44 years. At LLNL, he filled a diverse array of support and leadership roles, concluding in serving as laboratory site manager in the Director’s Office. In this position, he oversaw Plant Engineering, Environmental Protection, Hazards Control, Health Services, and the Safeguards and Security departments.

Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, he published a nonfiction book, and loved to garden, play golf, and, most of all, travel the world with his wife of 60 years, Mary.

He is survived by Mary, his son (Jeffrey), and his grandchildren, Derrick and Elaine.
