Keith M. Sheirich

Keith Mershon Sheirich of San Ramon died March 13. He was 47.

Sheirich was born in Oakland, California, on April 1, 1967 to Stephen Sheirich and Mary Cushman. He attended El Cerrito High School and continued his education at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He graduated from UCSF with a master’s degree in nursing in 1999, becoming an adult nurse practioner.

Sheirich joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 2000 as an occupational nurse practioner in Health Services. In 2008, he left the Laboratory and went to work at the San Ramon Medical Center in occupational medicine.

He was very dedicated to the San Francisco Bay Area Disaster Medical Assistance Team, (DMAT) CA-6. He was able to serve on two deployments in the past 10 years where he helped provide medical assistance to the victims of hurricane Katrina and the Haitian earthquake of 2010. His work with DMAT was what he was most proud of (other than his nephew, Noah).

Sheirich was admired for his enduring professional demeanor and his knowledgeable and compassionate approach to his patients. His patients loved him and his colleagues admired and respected his unending attention to exceptional patient care. He gave selflessly to others in his personal and professional life without reservation.

He loved to cook and garden, watch movies and go to the gun range. He was just learning how to enjoy an iPhone and iPad that he had recently received from his wife Monica.

Sheirich is predeceased by his parents Stephen Sheirich and Mary Cushman and is survived by his wife Monica Sheirich, sister Rachel Lance Ruebel and nephew Noah Ruebel. He also leaves behind three cats and two dogs that he considered his children.

A celebration of life was recently held at the Sheirich home in San Ramon.
