Joann B. Smith

Joann Bernadette Smith died Oct. 19. She was 70.

 Smith was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio to Margaret Nauman and Joe Wolf. She earned a bachelor’s degree at University of the Pacific and made her career in protective services for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory formore than 20 years. She was hired as one of the first female guards in 1974. She retired in 1998.

Among all of Smith’s attributes, her family was most important. She loved spending time with her grandchildren as they loved making memories at the water park in Mountain House, Dell’Osso Family Farms or just simply going outside to play and enjoy the outdoors.

Smith was a dedicated member of Crossroads Grace Community Church where she especially loved taking part in the Women of Grace bible study. She will be remembered as a loving mother, an amazing grandmother and a wonderful friend. She will be deeply missed.

Smith is survived by her children Susan Moore, Jon (Debbie) Myers and Leisa (Dale) Russell, grandchildren Joshua and Samuel Moore, Dale (Lisa) Russell, Zach (Tiffany) Russell, Courtney Russell, Jordynn Russell, Brian (Holly) Smith and Brad Smith and eight great grandchildren.

P.L Fry & Son is assisting the Smith family with final arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Crossroads Grace Community Church, 1505 Moffat Blvd., Manteca, California 95336.
