James T. Davis

James Thad Davis died in September in Walnut Creek, surrounded by family.

Davis was born in Salt Lake City to Roderick and Margaret (Paramore) Davis. He grew up in Walnut Creek, where he met and fell in love with Caroline Jane Quittner. They were married on June 15, 1957.

Upon graduation from Cal Poly, Davis joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, then worked 32 years at the Department of Energy, where he led teams responsible for nuclear safety. He loved art and nature. For 25 years, he and his wife arranged for the family to spend time together at the beach. His family loved the countless “true” stories he made up, from Peter Pelican to Tommy Tick Tock. He composed and played wonderful music on the piano. Davis served nine years on the school board. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in various positions. He was the leader of a large, loving family.

He is survived by his sister, Diane; Jane Davis of Livermore; his children, Dan Davis of San Jose, Debbie (Ted) Johnson of Las Vegas, Cindy (Craig) Harmer of San Jose and Jim (Lori) Davis of Highland, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept 9, at 1 p.m. at the LDS Church, 1501 Hillcrest Ave., Livermore, California.
