Henry McDonald

Henry McDonald of Danville died June 2. He was 87.

McDonald was born July 2, 1928 to Henry and Edith McDonald in Long Beach, California and moved to Glendale, California in 1932. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as an electronics tech 3rd class on a destroyer in the Atlantic Ocean. Upon discharge, he attended Glendale City College and U.C. Berkeley, graduating in 1952. He met Marian O'Berto, the love of his life, in the UC Library in 1950, but after graduating together in 1952, they parted ways with McDonald going to graduate school and Marian becoming a stewardess with Pan American Airlines. Three years later they reconnected and married in 1955 and had three children, Paul McDonald, Kimberly Lunsford and Kelley Kelly and five grandchildren.

McDonald retired from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as an associate director after a 33 year engineering career. McDonald and his wife were able to travel extensively around the world for 30 years and had a wonderful life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years as well as his children and grandchildren.

He will be interned by the Neptune Society at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
