Harold Pfeifer

Harold Pfeifer, a resident of Livermore and Lab retiree, died Aug. 27 after a rapid decline following several years of treatment for prostate cancer. He was 78.

Pfeifer was born in Urbana, Ill. He graduated from the University of Illinois and received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 after a distinguished 21-year career as a B52 radar navigator and an engineer in armament development. He retired again in 1993 after a 21-year career at LLNL.

Pfeifer and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed visiting with their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and bridge as well as his many volunteer activities

He is survived by Jan, his wife of 51 years; daughter, Terri, and her husband, Tom, of Denver, Colo.; and son, John, and his wife, Andrea, and their children, Ethan and Claire, of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
