Harold (Hal) R. Nida

Harold (Hal) R. Nida died Feb. 22. He was 78.

Nida was born on Oct. 19, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harold A. Nida and Mary Nida. They moved to Castro Valley when he was a young child where he graduated from Castro Valley High School in 1961. He started his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory when he was 18, where he worked for 41 years until he retired in 2003. Early on his career, he earned an associate degree from Diablo Junior College. He had several positions at the Lab including his last appointment as a facility manager in computations.

He is survived by his three children; son Richard Nida (Chantal); daughters Collette Nida-Brown (Mike) and Kimberly Bockelman (Alex) and his four grandchildren; Marissa, Mitchell, Kiah, and Tristan. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Nida on Jan. 2, 2022.
