Gregg Hommes

Gregg Hommes died Oct. 20. He was 48.

Hommes was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on March 24, 1966. He spent his formative years growing up in Hawthorne, New Jersey with his parents, Harry and Eunice, and two older brothers, Rusty (Glenn) and Wayne.

Hommes graduated from Hackensack Christian High School in June of 1984 with the plan to enter Montclair State University in the fall. Over the summer he was injured and postponed his college entrance for that year. Once rehabilitated, he entered Montclair State University and completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science and graduated with honors in just three and a half years.

After graduation, he received numerous job offers for his unique skill set. His heart’s desire was to work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California, so when that job was offered, he eagerly accepted a position as a computer programmer. Hommes has served in this capacity for more than 25 years.  He most recently worked in the Applications, Simulations & Quality (ASQ) Division of the Computing Applications and Research (CAR) Department.

Hommes faithfully attended Valley Community Church in Pleasanton, California.  He enjoyed movies, puzzles and especially reading.

Hommes’ family has set up a memorial website for family, friends and coworkers to leave notes and pictures in his memory.
