George Wilson

George B. Wilson, a long-time resident of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., died Sept. 3, after a short illness. He was 86.

Born April 27, 1922, in La Madera, N.M., he joined the military in November 1943 serving during World War II as a private first class building runways and airfields for the U.S. Air Force in the Alaska Aleutian Islands. He left the military in April 1946 receiving an honorable discharge.

Wilson started working at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in 1946, transferring to LLNL in 1954 as a purchasing agent and eventually moving to data processing manager before retiring in 1977.

Wilson was a long-term resident of South Lake Tahoe, building his dream retirement home in 1978 and living there until the house was lost during the Angora fire of 2007.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a long-time volunteer in the Kiwanis Club both in Livermore and South Lake Tahoe, achieving the distinguished recognition of lifetime member.

Wilson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lee; son and daughter-in-law, George and Alma Wilson of Annapolis, Md., and their two children Lee Brian and Alex; daughter, Karen Foster of Clovis, Calif., and her five children, Alilcia, Sterling, Garret, Cameron and Lauren; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Robin Wilson of Chandler, Ariz., and their three children Tyler, Cory and Haley; brother, Carl Wilson of Darby Mont.; and many relatives.

A memorial service will be held in the Tahoe Community Church on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. At the family’s request, donations may be made in Wilson’s name to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.
