Frederick "Fred" Earle Hammer

Frederick "Fred" Earle Hammer died Dec. 14, 2018. He was 90 years old.

After graduating from Oakland High School Hammer served in the Army during the Korean War.

Hammer was a proud journeyman electrician and 70-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 595 where he was much respected and loved as foreman and general foreman, as well as serving on the executive board and as a negotiator. He worked as an electrician at Lawrence Livermore Lab.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Beatrice Hammer, and sister, Audrey (Brian) Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his partner, Joan Weber; daughters: Barbara Hammer (Herb) and Colleen Hammer (Nick Marquart); sons: Ken Hammer and Paul (Aileen) Hammer; step-daughter, Leila (Jason) McCarty and grandchildren: Shawn, Makaela and Brianna Hammer and Henning McCarty.

Hammer’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Niles Canyon Mobile Estates clubhouse, 711 Old Canyon Road, Fremont 94536.
