Emilio Ramirez

Emilio Ramirez of Livermore died March 19. He was 91.

Ramirez served in the Army during both WWII and the Korean War. He married Mary Esther in 1949 and moved with his bride from San Antonio, Texas to California. He worked during the day as a machinist and attended UC Berkeley at night. In 1957, he began a career as a mechanical designer with UC Berkeley, then later at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he worked for 30 years until his retirement.

Ramirez, affectionately known as “Pap” by his family, was a resident of Livermore for over 55 years and a long time parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He loved to play bridge with the Sons In Retirement (SIRS) and was a member of the American Legion and Toastmasters. He especially loved time spent with his family.

Ramirez was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro and Teresa Ramirez, and two brothers, Rudy and Alvaro, Jr. Ramirez.

He is survived by his brother, Robert Ramirez; his wife of 67 years, Mary Esther Ramirez; daughters, Emily (Patrick) Mulvihill and Linda (Dwayne) McCosker; grandchildren, Heidi (David) Santino, Michael (Jennifer) McCosker, Kristina (Darryl) Holcombe, Wisper Moorhead, Natalie McCosker, and Anton Teunissen and six great-grandchildren.

A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave, Livermore. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 31 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1315 Lomitas Ave, Livermore. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
