Dixie Bates Wood

Dixie Bates Wood died Feb. 5, 2019. She was 90.

She was born at Lakeside, Arizona, the 10th of 11 children of LaSelle and Nellie Mae Bates. She attended Phoenix Union High School with her twin sister Wynne and worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Washington, D.C. Wood served as a Latter-day Saints missionary in the Spanish-American mission. In 1979 she started work at Lawrence Livermore and retired in June 1992 as an administrator in Engineering. 

In 1955 she married Calvin D. Wood, sharing 63 years of marriage, five children, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Dixie loved motherhood, the ocean, friends, travel, music, literature, soccer and the Warriors.  She was full of love for everyone, generous, kind, friendly and gracious.

Her husband and her children, Kathi, Ted, Kirsten, Monty, and Karinne with spouses, family and friends will celebrate her life at Asbury United Methodist Church (AUMC, 4743 East Ave., Livermore) at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17.  In lieu of flowers please donate to the AUMC Endowment fund or to the charity of your choice.
