David Charles Oakley

David Charles Oakley died Sept 21 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was 89.

Oakley was born in Marysville, California. Most of his early life was spent in the small town of Hammonton where he started his education in a two-room schoolhouse. He finished his formal education obtaining his Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology.

He moved to Livermore in 1954 where he worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, conducting nuclear weapons testing for nearly 40 years. In 1966, the family moved to Pleasanton.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernice; children, Renee Hargreaves, Charles Oakley and Craig Oakley and daughter-in-law Marina True; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore on Jan. 12, 2019 from 1-4 p.m.
