David B. Cummings

David B. Cummings, resident of Rocklin and longtime resident of Pleasanton, died May 20. He was 88.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to David Williams Cummings and Charlotte Sarah Butler Cummings, he lived most of his life in northern California. While attending UC Berkeley, he served in the Naval ROTC and met the love of his life, Lola Nielsen. They married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple upon his return from a two-year church mission to New England. Their 65-year union was blessed with five children: Janet (Bob) Stewart, Martha (Karl) Kern, Richard Cummings, Gordon Cummings, and Julia (Jim) Wheeler; 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Cummings received physics and master of electrical engineering degrees from UC Berkeley and spent many years working for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Following his 1991 retirement, he participated in a local interfaith council and pursued his love of genealogy, both as director of the local LDS Family History Center and by doing extensive personal research.

He and his wife were called to serve church missions in southern England and in the Boston area. They also worked many years in the Oakland LDS temple.

A memorial service was recently held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rocklin Stake Center in Rocklin.

Memorial donations can be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Aid Fund.
