Charles Shearer

Charles "Chuck" Shearer, also known as "Bud" died Jan. 12. He was 87.

Shearer was born in Loudonville, Ohio, Feb. 19, 1928 to Ernest and Pearl Shearer. He relocated with his family to Oakland, California and graduated from Castlemont High School in 1947. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Roberta, and then was swiftly drafted into the army as the Korean War had begun. After basic training he was sent to Germany to serve out his tour. After his discharge from the army,  Shearer began his career with the national laboratories, starting out in Berkeley, and then moving to Livermore where he retired 40 years later. After retirement he and his wife were able to take several trips to Germany and Europe and across the United States to visit their new granddaughter, Amanda, before his wife’s death in 1992.

As an avid outdoorsman, Shearer spent as much time as he could pursuing favorite hobbies of fly fishing, bird hunting, deer hunting and traveling to Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming in search of the perfect buck.

Shearer was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Pearl; wife, Roberta; and brothers, John and Robert. He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Jim) Young, of Esparto, California; granddaughter, Amanda (Shane) Vergara of Fairfield, California; sister, Audrey Spaur of Longmont, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
