Charles Black

Charles Merlyn Black, a resident of Livermore and a Lab retiree, died Aug. 19. He was 71.

Born Sept. 17, 1936 in Prairie City, Ore., he was the only son of the late Charles and Lola Black of Mount Vernon, Ore. After graduating high school in 1958, he attended Oregon Technology Institute. He was recruited to work at the Lab as a machinist and retired in 1996 after a 39-year career.

Black was associated with the Mosaic Lodge #218 in Livermore for many years and served as master in 1972. In 1989, he married Donna Chapman. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

Black is survived by his sons, Dennis Ray Black and Kevin Lewis Black, both of Livermore; a daughter, Julie Black Larson, of Galt, Calif.; two grandsons, Derek Larson and Andy Black; one granddaughter Sarah Larson; and extended family members: son-in-law Greg Larson; step daughter and husband Dawn and Greg Taylor; step son, Jere Chapman; step granddaughters and husbands Shannon and Jeff Rybczynski and Amy and Glenn Sutterfield.

Services were held on Aug. 23 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore. Private graveside services were to take place in Canyon City, Ore.
