Charles Aubrey Hannon

Livermore resident and Laboratory retire Charles Aubrey Hannon died July 9. He was 94.

Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Bisbee, Arizona and graduated from Bisbee High School, Hannon entered the U.S. Navy in 1939 and was commissioned in 1944. He left the Navy in 1946 as a LTJG. He retired after 35 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1987.

He enjoyed flying, sailing, motorcycling and camping. A natural musician, Hannon played guitar, mandolin and the keyboard. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his storytelling, cheerful disposition and musical talent. He was a past master and 32° Mason at the Mosaic Lodge, #218 in Livermore, F.A.M. and an active member of Aahmes Shrine. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10293 in Ceres, California and a member of the Unity Church of San Leandro.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Hannon of Livermore; son, Jeff Hannon of Ripon; daughters Debra Rock of Lathrop, Susan Winfree and Ginger Crowne of Livermore. He also is survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at 3 Steve’s Winery, 5700 Greenville Road, Livermore. Guests are asked to remember Hannon by wearing red to the event. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
