Betty Jean Voelker

Betty Voelker died peacefully Sept. 19. She was 83.

Voelker was born Jan. 10, 1933, and was raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1951. In 1954, she married Loren James Voelker. They were married just short of 62 years.

The Voelkers made their home in Livermore, where they raised their six children. Betty Voelker worked as a teacher’s aide at Livermore High School for seven years and at Lawrence Livermore for 11 years. She retired in 1993 and the Voelkers moved to Minden, Nevada. Betty enjoyed spending time with Loren, swimming, golfing, traveling, attending family events and playing in the local casinos. She also was a devoted member of St. Gaff’s Parish in Gardnerville, Nevada.

Voelker was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Grace Peters and her daughter, Debra Ann Voelker. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Loren Voelker; five sons, Keith (Linda), Kevin, Mark (Eileen), Matthew (Brenda) and David (Rose); 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
