Barbara Judith Foudy

Barbara Judith Foudy of Livermore died Nov. 28. She was 71.

Barbara Judith Foudy was born to James and Adele Kinavey on Dec. 7, 1942, the first anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Foudy was born in San Francisco, the oldest of six children. She spent her formative years in Sonoma, California and returned to San Francisco, where she attended Star of the Sea High School. In 1960, she graduated from high school and began working at the French Hospital. In 1965, she married the love of her life, Vince Foudy and moved to Livermore, California. She worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as an administrative assistant and then chose to start a family. Foudy and her husband raised four children, Jim, Colleen, John and Barbara Ann.

In 1965, Foudy and her husband joined a small group of people who supported and began the St. Charles Catholic community. The first services were held at the Vine Theater in Livermore. At that time, the parishioners created the motto: “Not a place where, but a people who.” Although the community moved to a permanent facility in 1968, this mission statement has endured for 50 years.

Foudy enjoyed gardening and was very active in the community. When her kids were young, she taught sewing and cooking classes in the Livermore 4-H program.

Foudy is survived by her husband Vince; sisters-in-law Ann Foudy, Carol Foudy, Cynthia Kinavey and Sherry Kinavey; brother-in-law Bill Foudy; four children and their spouses Jim and Alison Foudy, Colleen and Phillip Chantnacran, John and Jennifer Foudy and Barbara Ann and Marlin McMonigal; siblings Marianne Newman, John and Jean Kinavey; and 14 grandchildren: Austin, Marcus, Kenny, Cody, Rebecca, Anna, Madeline, Phillip, David, Joshua, Grace, Judah, Matthew and Aila.
