Alwyn (Al) E. Lewis

Alwyn (Al) Lewis of Livermore died Nov. 25. He was 87.

Lewis was born on Oct. 8, 1927 to Joseph and Eleanor Lewis in Hayward. He attended Washington Centerville High School in Fremont and continued at San Jose State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Willard on June 30, 1957. Together they moved to Livermore in 1962 with their three children, where Lewis worked as a purchasing manager for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The last 20 years prior to his retirement he was an international negotiator for ITT. 

Lewis was pre-deceased by his wife Elizabeth of 57 years, and his two sons, Paul Anthony and Mark Edward Lewis. 

He is survived by his daughter Mary Lewis-Bas; son in-law Paul McDaniel; daughter in-law Linda Lewis-Atkinson; granddaughters Lesley Lewis-Patty and Brittney Bas; grandson Josh Lewis and three great- grandchildren, Elijah, Lennon and Finnley Patty.

His second love after his family was St. Michael’s Church, where he was a member for 52 years.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Besides his bigger-than-life personality, he loved caring about others and giving to numerous charities. 

A  rosary will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Livermore.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 11:30 a.m. also at St. Michaels’s Church.
