Alan Ronald Mathews

Alan Ronald Mathews died March 7. He was 75.

Mathews was born in Woodridge, New Jersey, to Howard and Anne Mathews and relocated with his family to California in 1951. He graduated from Washington High School in Fremont in 1961 and joined the California National Guard as a reservist.

His career began as a welder for Peter Built then Kaiser Sand & Gravel shortly thereafter. He then started his 20-plus year career at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he retired in 2002. Upon his retirement, Matthews continued with his love of golf and wine and traveled around the world, spending much of his time at a cabin in Arnold. He was an active member of several area golf associations and was recently elected to the Summerset Country Club Board of Directors.

Mathews is survived by his loving partner of five years, Kaytee Lively; sons, Derrick and Timothy Mathews; daughters-in-law, Tasha and Monica Mathews; grandchildren, Blaine, Reed, Garret, Grace, Katelin Mathews and Ashley, Austin and Peyton Williams; as well as his nephews and niece and other extended family. He was preceded in passing by his brother, Howard Mathews, of Pleasanton.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Matthews’ life on March 13 starting at 12 p.m. at the Campos Family Vineyards, 3501 Byer Road in Byron.
