Paul Kempel

Paul Kempel died Sept. 24 from complications of a stroke, at home in Tracy, California.

He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1971 and graduated with honors in architecture from University of California, Berkeley in 1977. He landed his dream job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Throughout a 37-year career, he held titles of architect, engineer, design manager and project manager eventually retiring in 2018.

He is survived by his wife Mary; sons Nicholas, Chad (Amy), and Steven (Caitlyn & Kennedy); and his grandchildren Savannah, Avery, Lincoln, Noelle, Grayson, Preston, Gabriella, and Reese; mother Ida Kempel; brothers Michael (Theresa), Robert (Mary), sisters Charlene (Gary), Karen (Steve), Annette (John) and Rachel. He also leaves behind aunts Dot, Betty, Tookie, many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, many great friends, and beloved in-laws in the Moran family. He was preceded in death by his father Walter; sister Mary Jo; brother Lawrence "Larry"; mother-in-law Nancy Moran; father in-law James Moran;sister-in-law Pam Moran; brother-in-law David Moran; grandchildren Marshall and& Spencer; grandparents Mary and John Bergman, Anna and Walter Kempel Sr., along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Joseph's Church in Alameda on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at Pasta Pelican located at 2455 Mariner Square Drive, Alameda.
