Nancy Lee Suski

Nancy Lee Suski died June 19, 2026. She was 71.

Born on January 31, 1955, in Park Ridge, Illinois, to Dolores and Charles Schwertz, she grew up in a military family that eventually settled in San Antonio. An exceptional student, she graduated from John Jay High School at age 16, earned a bachelor of science in engineering science from Trinity University, and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Davis. A licensed professional engineer, she devoted nearly four decades to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where she led pioneering initiatives, established LLNL's Germantown, Maryland office, and later served in the Department of Homeland Security following the Sept. 11 attacks to strengthen the nation's emergency preparedness. Passionate about developing future leaders, she helped establish Georgetown University's graduate programs in emergency and disaster management and applied intelligence and remained active in her community through the LLNL Community Emergency Response Team.

She is survived by her husband Greg, son Matthew, stepdaughters Laura and Anna, her grandchildren (Amalia, Lucas, and Owen), her brother David, her sister Judy, and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dolores.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Pleasanton on July 27, at 10 a.m.
