John Honig
John Honig died May 10, 2026. He was 68.
He was born Hans Honigschnabel on April 1, 1958 in Buchschachen, Austria. He immigrated with his parents to St. Louis, MO in 1959 and became citizens in 1966. John attended Northwestern University for his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering in 1980. He then furthered his education and completed his doctorate in 1986 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After grad school, he returned to St. Louis where he began working at McDonnell Douglas. He moved to Livermore in June 1992, where he began to work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the National Ignition Facility until his retirement in 2025 after 33 years.
He is survived by his wife Betsy, his daughters, Allison and Andrea, his mother Mary, sister Maria Honigschnabel, and dear family in Austria. He is preceded in death by his father Samuel Honig.
Memorial service will be held on May 30, 2026 at 10:30 am at Our Savior Lutheran Ministries, 1385 S Livermore Ave, Livermore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
