Jeff Robinson

Jeff Robinson died April 8, 2026. He was 62.

Robinson joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in 1991, working as an operations and maintenance technologist on Nova. More recently, he ran an optics and coatings lab at the Center for Micro and Nano Technology, overseeing deposition of first-of-a-kind, state-of-the art, multilayer optics for applications such as: extreme ultraviolet lithography, the technology invented at our national labs and employed today to produce leading-edge microchips for smartphones; Linac Coherent Light Source, the world’s first X-ray laser; high-energy physics and astronomy; solar physics telescopes for NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory mission, the GOES-16, -17, -18 and -19 space weather satellites and the Emirates Mars Ultraviolet Spectrometer / Emirates Mars Mission; and “arms” for the National Ignition Facility. His unparalleled expertise has been documented in numerous scientific publications. Beyond his technical skill, he was a beacon of safety practices and a champion of a positive workplace culture.

He is survived by his three children, Kayla, Brandi and Colton; four grandchildren, Marissa, Kinley, Kamryn and Quinn; and two great grandchildren, Elle and Eisley.
