Allen Leigh Kuhl

Allen Leigh Kuhl died Oct. 13, 2024. He was 79.

Kuhl was born on Feb. 9, 1945, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Leonard and Ardis Kuhl. Before high school, his family moved to San Carlos, California, where he attended Junipero Serra Catholic High School. His love of science led him to pursue a doctor of philosophy at University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, he began his career at TRW in Southern California. He later transitioned to working for RDA in Marina del Rey before eventually moving to Northern California to join Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His passion for science was unwavering, and he continued working up until his passing.

He is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Frei and Rebecca Placzek, his sons-in-laws Chris Frei and Will Placzek, and his five grandchildren: Maggie Frei, Katie Frei, Claire Placzek, Drew Placzek and Evan Placzek. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne Kuhl, and his parents.
